Mary O’Brien is the Chief Executive Officer for Fox Valley Orthopaedic Institute in Geneva, Il. Mary received her MBA in healthcare and financial management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and has been employed with her current group since 1985. Fox Valley Orthopaedic Institute includes 13 orthopedic surgeons, 8 Physician Assistants, Physical and occupational therapy, two MRI suites, and an Ambulatory surgery center. Additionally real estate holdings include two properties totally 66,000 square feet.

Mary has been a member since 1988 and has served on the education committee and the Phoenix and Chicago task force committees. She is also certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Other volunteer activities include Rotary International and a local social services board. Recreational activities include SCUBA diving, golf, travel and photography.

Chris began his career in healthcare with the US Air Force and spent 6 years on active duty. 

In addition to serving on the AAOE board of directors Chris is also the President-Elect for the California BONES Society and was instrumental in forming C-BONES in 2008.

Chris is also an active member of MGMA and California MGMA.  Chris holds the CMPE certification from the American College of Medical Practice Executives and serves on the regional board for California MGMA.

In his free time Chris can be found outdoors, most often on a golf course, and spending time his wife and 2 children.

Over the last 10 years, Don Schreiner has served as the CEO for the Rockford Orthopedic Associates, Ltd., (ROA) an 20-physician multi-specialty Clinic located in North Central Illinois with over 180 employees. During this period, he has overseen the addition of Physical Therapy, 2 MRIs, DME Services, outpatient Surgery Center, Clinical Research Department, 11 PA’s at 3 locations and has fully implemented EMR and PAC Systems. He is responsible for all aspects of the Clinic and Surgery Center operations. Prior to this position, Don was a managed care executive for 18 years, for John Deere Health, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and 2 large regional health systems. His experience covers all aspects of Development, Marketing and Operations with extensive experience in managed care pricing, and contracting. Don Schreiner earned his BA and MBA from the University of Toledo and is a member of AAOE and MGMA.

Barbara is Executive Director for Midwest Orthopaedics, P.A., a practice over forty years old in suburban Kansas City.   The practice has four general orthopaedic surgeons, one Foot and Ankle surgeon and two PA’s.  She has been with the practice since January of 2004, having previously worked in geriatric primary care in a hospital-owned practice and an academic medical center program. 

Barbara has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Health Services Administration, as well as being a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) with the American College of Medical Practice Executives.  She has worked in healthcare for over 25 years; seventeen of that as an administrator. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Greater Kansas City Medical Manager’s Association and 2008-2009 President of Midwest AAOE.  Barbara has been a presenter at the annual BONES conferences, the AAOS Practice Management Symposium, the AOFAS Annual Summer Meeting, and other medical association meetings.


Suzann M. Crowder, MBA, CMPE

Suzann has over 20 years experience in orthopedics, beginning her career as an x-ray technician.  She quickly moved up the ranks in health care management as she took on a variety of roles as she gained experience in orthopedic practice management.  She has spent the last ten years of her career focused on implementing advanced practice technologies to better manage her practice as well as enhance patient care.

Suzann has been a member  of MGMA since 1998, a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives since 2000, and currently serves on the Board of Directors.  In the past, she has served on many committees including Membership, Leadership, and Education.  Suzann has been a member of the Midwest American Association of Orthopaedic Executives since 2002.  Suzann prides herself as being at the helm of her practice as it was recognized by MGMA, as a Better Performing Practice for the years 2001, 2002, and 2004-2008.  Suzann has been past president of MGMA-Greater St. Louis in 2003 as well as Chair of their membership committee.  Above all, she considers herself a decision maker with a creative spirit and is a very stable and dedicated manager.

Suzann currently serves as the Administrator of St. Charles Orthopedic Surgery Associates, Inc... In addition, Suzann functions as the CEO of Health Care Billing of St. Charles, a billing and management company specializing in ASC Billing.

Jim P. Kidd

Jim has 20 years of health care management experience.  He spent 13 of those years in surgical administration at universities and seven in private practice.

He has been a member of MGMA since 1996; a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives since 2003, serving as Chair of the Practice Management Committee in 2009; a member of the Midwest American Association of Orthopaedic Executives since 2005, where he now serves a second term as secretary/treasurer; and a member of MGMA St. Louis periodically since 2006, and is currently serving as Director-at-Large.  Jim was also a member of the Academic Practice Assembly from 1996-2002; and the Association of Academic Surgical Administrators from 1999-2004, where he served in progressive board leadership roles, including Member-at-Large, Education Chairman, Vice President, and President.

Mr. Pupkis has been the CEO of Capital Region Orthopaedics since May 2001.  During his tenure the group has grown from 16 physicians to 30, with a 6 OR-ASC and MRI Suite.  He began in the business of medicine in 1977 as the Administrator of Orthopedic Associates of Worcester, Mass a four physician group.  Mr. Pupkis was a consultant for ten years helping several hundred clients in nine states with virtually every aspect of the business of medicine.  He was an adjunct professor for five years at the University of New England.  Mr. Pupkis was the Executive Director of a PHO and IPA in Winston-Salem, NC serving counties with over 100,000 lives in global capitation.  He is current Past-President and founder of NYS Bones, Inc. Mr. Pupkis satisfied the examination and continuing education requirements for Americal College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) certification and was granted the status as Certified Member in 1995.

David has been the CEO of Hope Orthopedics and Willamette Surgery Center for 8 + years. The Orthopedic practice includes 12 surgeons and 7 PA’s, an MRI, a DEXA Scanner, Physical and Occupational (Hand) Therapy, a Brace Shop, a PACS system, DR and CR radiology and is attached to the community-wide EMR system. The surgery center is a multi-specialty center which includes orthopedics, neurosurgery, podiatry and general surgery.   David has approximately 28 years of experience in healthcare, all in management positions. He has worked in hospitals, long term care and medical group management.

In addition to running an orthopedic group, he also led group formation efforts and served as the Executive Director for a large group of anesthesiologists and then, later, for 2 separate groups of pediatricians.   He currently serves on the Board of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Assembly within MGMA and is the Chair of the Government Relations (Lobbying) Committee for the Oregon ASC association. He has spoken at numerous national and local conventions. He is married and has three grown children. He and his wife live in the country outside of Portland, Oregon with 4 sheep, 14 chickens and one very crazy golden retriever.


George Trantow, CHE

George is the Executive Director of Orthopaedic Associates of Aspen & Glenwood as well as the Midvalley Ambulatory Surgery Center and Midvalley Imaging Center.   He has spent over twenty years in healthcare leadership positions including nine years of active duty in the US Army Medical Service Corps.  George has a varied background including serving in field medical positions, hospital administration, integrated health systems, multi-specialty group practice, surgery centers and imaging centers.  His expertise in strategic planning, managed care negotiations, business development and finance have resulted in very successful organizations and many accolades. 

He was tapped as an upcoming leader in 1989 when he received the US Army Medical Service Corps, “Outstanding Junior Officer Award” and in 1990 he received a scholarship to attend the prestigious US Army-Baylor University MHA Program.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a member of Colorado AAOE and MGMA.

George’s commitment to service translates to participation on several boards/committees including the Aspen Sports Medicine Foundation, Community Health Plan of the Roaring Fork Valley, Midvalley Trails of Eagle County, Town of Basalt Open Space, Trails and Parks.  George enjoys leading his sons and wife on trips skiing, hunting, fishing, camping and biking.
