AAOE Advocates on Behalf of Nonprofit Associations

Posted By: Cathy Lada AAOE News,

This week, I had the opportunity to join hundreds of association leaders and advocates on Capitol Hill for ASAE’s annual legislative fly-in. It was an energizing and impactful two days connecting with members of Congress to discuss pressing issues facing the association community.

As conversations about tax reform begin to take shape in Washington, it's more important than ever for associations to clearly demonstrate their mission-driven impact. We’re making the case that nonprofits are essential partners in building strong communities—and any added financial or tax burden would jeopardize their ability to deliver on that mission.

We also voiced our strong support for the bipartisan, bicameral Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act. This bill would allow 529 savings plans to be used not just for traditional college expenses, but also for workforce training, certification programs, and professional licensure—giving individuals more flexible options to pursue careers that don’t follow a four-year degree path.

Grateful to ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership and Mary Kate Cunningham, CAE for leading the charge and continuing to elevate the role associations play in workforce development and the broader economy.
