Networking at the AAOE Annual Conference

AAOE News,

Networking at a conference can be a valuable opportunity to connect with professionals in your industry, build relationships, and exchange ideas. Here's a guide on how to effectively network at a conference.

Set Clear Goals

Before attending the conference, define your goals. Are you looking for a new EMR, job opportunities, or education on ways to better your practice? Knowing your objectives will help you tailor your networking approach.

Research Attendees

Take the time to research speakers, sponsors, and attendees. Identify key individuals you want to connect with. Familiarize yourself with their work and have specific talking points ready.

Attend Networking Sessions

AAOE has created three different opportunities to network with your peers: Networking by Practice Size, Networking by Topic and Roundtables that are tailored to your career path. Make sure to take advantage of these opportunities to meet others in a facilitated environment so you can develop connections that can help you through your career.

Utilize Social Media

Following AAOE on social media is a great way to see in real time what is happening during the conference. You can also follow the hashtag #AAOE24 to hear from fellow attendees, speakers and vendors about their show experiences. This is a great way to find out where people are gathering and where events are being hosted.

Additionally, you can connect with fellow attendees in the 2024 AAOE Annual Conference App.

Be Approachable

Approachability is key. Smile, maintain eye contact, and use open body language. Don't be afraid to break the ice by introducing yourself to nearby attendees during sessions or breaks.
A perfect place to meet fellow attendees in a casual setting is to make your way to the Hive. Located near registration, the Hive is designed as a place where you can bring your coffee and meet others, whether they are first time attendees or veterans of the conference.

Actively Listen

Pay close attention to what others are saying. This not only shows respect but also provides valuable information for further conversation. Respond thoughtfully and ask follow-up questions.

Exchange Business Cards

Bring a stack of business cards with you. Exchange cards with new contacts, and jot down a quick note on the back about the conversation. This will help you remember key details later. If you have gone paperless, there are lots of options to create digital business cards that you can share with your connections as well.

Follow Up

After the conference, follow up with the people you've met. Send a personalized email expressing your pleasure in meeting them, reference a point from your conversation, and suggest ways to stay connected.

You can also connect in the AAOE Collaborate Community to keep your discussions going!

Be Genuine

Authenticity goes a long way. Be yourself and show genuine interest in others. People are more likely to remember and connect with someone who is authentic and passionate.

Have Fun

Don’t get too focused on trying to maximize every interaction you have that you forget to have fun. The AAOE Annual Conference is a great place to make lifelong friendships, in addition to learning ways to improve your practice and your career.

By following these tips, you'll be well-prepared to make the most out of your conference networking experience. Good luck!
